If you only add your obligations, looking over your to-dos will become a chore. Today is the list for to-dos that you want to start before the day ends. Anytime is home for all of the to-dos you could start at any time. To learn how to assign your to-dos quickly to any of these lists, check out these tips here as well. When that happens, make it a Project instead. Like to-dos, there are almost always too many potential projects for you to work on at any given time.

An Area is for grouping all of your projects and to-dos that support an ongoing ambition. Remember to keep an eye on your savings for the future with a Money area. The events are neatly grouped at the top of your Today list. With your to-dos below, your whole day is laid out before you. So we added This Evening, which allows you to keep these to-dos separate from the rest, in their own discrete list. Plan your week ahead with the new Upcoming list.

It shows everything on your agenda for the coming days: scheduled to-dos, repeating to-dos, deadlines, and calendar events. A quick peek at this list is all it takes to stay on top of your schedule — and if your plans change, re-scheduling your to-dos is as easy as drag and drop.

Large projects are easier to complete when you can break them up into smaller parts — just add a few Headings! Use headings to create categories, milestones, or whatever you need — just give each one a name and drag your to-dos underneath. Headings are a true productivity booster. Not only do they give you a nice visual structure, but you can now easily rearrange whole groups of to-dos simply by dragging and dropping their heading.

And when you’re done, archive your heading and all of its to-dos for future reference. Use a checklist when shopping for a list of ingredients, or when packing your bag for a trip. You can even paste in a bulleted list from another app and Things will convert it to a checklist for you. The new plus button adds some magic to every interaction. As you’d expect, tapping it creates a new to-do. But now comes the magic: if you want to insert your to-do somewhere else, simply command the button where it should go!

Lift it up with your finger, drag it into place, and let go. Insert a new item right where you want it: drag the button to insert a to-do at the right place in your Today list, or under the right heading in a project, or add a new to-do to the right day in Upcoming.

Everything becomes so seamless — it’s magical. When you’re inside a project, the Magic Plus has another skill: creating headings! Just drag it to the left margin and let go. No matter what list you’re in, you can send a new to-do straight to your Inbox — with a single, consistent gesture and without ever leaving the list.

Simply grab the Magic Plus and drop it on the Inbox target that appears to the left. Search and navigation in Things is now remarkably fast, with Quick Find. To hold its promise, Quick Find needs to be — quick. We’ve built it so that the moment you hit a key, the results show up instantly. And as you keep typing, the search results update blazingly fast, narrowing your search on the fly.

Type Travel On the Mac, the power of Quick Find and the power of your keyboard combine to create a unique experience — we call it Type Travel. As soon as you strike a key, the search is on. Search and navigation in Things is now extremely fast, with Quick Find. Set your plans in motion with Jump Start — the clever new way to set a date in Things. The Jump Start popover helps you make scheduling decisions quickly by putting all the answers in one convenient place.

Simply hover your mouse in front of a to-do and click the calendar button that appears. Did we mention that Things Cloud is simple? Every time you change any of your to-dos, Things automatically triggers an update with Things Cloud. This is because Things Cloud comes with state of the art Push Sync technology that makes your cross-device experience feel magical. And, dare we say: it just works.

Confirm it by hitting OK and immediately afterwards reboot your Mac per the on-screen instructions. To change the email address you are using with Things Cloud, follow these instructions.

You can always manually re-arrange to-dos or your own lists in to any order you prefer by dragging and dropping, though. Projects added to the Someday list are also inactive. If you need help to set up a repeating rule that only repeats on weekdays, weekends, or just specific days, have a look at the instructions on this page.

If you are making changes to a repeating to-do but the next time the to-do appears those changes are gone you have edited the copy of the repeating to-do, not the template. In order for changes to stick and appear in future copies, you must edit the repeating template.
